As a network of more than 260 university, special, patrimonial and public libraries in Western Switzerland, RERO fulfils a highly valued public service. With the support of political, academic and cultural authorities, it is the instrument for documentary policy in Western Switzerland.
RERO is responsible for providing its library partners and network end users with IT tools and services, and other training and information services, adapted to the cultural context. RERO fosters the co-ordination of professional practice and creates added value through the collective cataloguing of information resources and documentary heritage and the central management of catalogues. RERO also optimizes costs through the pooling of resources.
We seek an exceptional candidate to undertake operational management of the network as
Under the supervision of the RERO Strategic Council, which is nominated by the CIIP (Conférence Intercantonale de l'Instruction publique de la Suisse romande et du Tessin), you will be responsible for RERO's operational activities and for the co-ordination of the whole RERO network. You will also be responsible for the staff and resources of the RERO Centre through which services are provided to member libraries.
You will present your vision, strategy and an organization plan for the co-ordination of the development of the network to meet current and future challenges to the RERO Strategic Council. You will work closely with local co-ordinators in the cantons to ensure efficient functioning across the network.
You will lead the RERO Centre, with a staff of 24 library and information specialists engaged on the co-ordination of the network and the provision of services to member libraries. You will be responsible for the operation and development of the network, particularly for data management and IT systems for the management of libraries and end user services. You will participate in the formulation of RERO's strategic guidelines and you will be responsible for the implementation of projects approved by the Strategic Council. You will maintain close relationships with local co-ordinators, members of university boards and library directors in order to develop required services in the field of documentary information processing.
You will have a university degree or college diploma in the field of documentary information or computer science. You will also have experience of managing large projects and be able to demonstrate leadership skills, organizational talent and a capacity for participatory management. You will have fluent spoken and written French and an excellent command of English and German. You will offer well developed social skills and be a talented communicator and mediator. Your analytical skills and ability to prioritize will enable you to create an atmosphere of trust in implementing partner specifications with highly diverse requirements.
